4. Unforgiven (1992)

Leonard Maltin's Rating :
Should be :

IMDB Rating : 8.3

Rotten Tomatoes Rating : 96%

Rotten Tomatoes Consensus : "As both director and star, Clint Eastwood strips away decades of Hollywood varnish applied to the Wild West, and emerges with a series of harshly eloquent statements about the nature of violence."

Leonard said in his review : "Powerful examination of morality and hypocrisy in the Old West - and the importance of killing (and being killed) - but marred by a midsection that plods." Originally, in Leonard Maltin's Movie review book, the movie was given 2 1/2 stars.

In addition to a great story it has one of the great ensemble casts of all time. Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman and Richard Harris were all so good in this.

I don't think that there is one minute in Unforgiven that "plods". There are some scenes that further the character development, but that is one of the many things that makes this movie so good.

A movie classic. A thinking person's movie and one of the best Westerns ever made. Every frame is a gem.
