70. Oldboy (2003)
Leonard Maltin's Rating :
Should be :
IMDB Rating : 8.4
Rotten Tomatoes Rating : 94%
Rotten Tomatoes Synopsis: "Violent and definitely not for the squeamish, Park Chan-Wook's visceral Oldboy is a strange, powerful tale of revenge."
In his review Leonard says: "Extremely violent and unpleasant ..."
A violent kung-fu style movie that borders on a horror movie is definitely not the kind of movie I would normally like, but there was something compelling about this well made revenge thriller.
The movie had the hook of being a mystery as the main character, who has been imprisoned for fifteen years, has five days to find out who imprisoned him and what happened to his wife and daughter.
This is not a movie for all tastes, but for the genre that it is part of, it is one of the best. Bizarre, violent, disturbing and very well done.
