Rotten Tomatoes Consensus : "High production values and an original story impressed critics."

Pleasantville is a very entertaining and interesting movie. The movie compares the good old days (life in the 50's) to today. Which world would you rather live in? It is an interesting debate that makes for an interesting and relevant movie.

Leonard says in this review : "Excellent performances and a striking visual design (the black-and-white world and its people slowly acquire color) spark this satire, which bites off more than it can chew, becoming slow and somber."

Wow! We must have watched different movies. Slow and somber are the last adjectives that I would use to describe this great movie. Exciting, challenging, thoughtful, and entertaining would be adjectives that I would have picked for this beautifully filmed movie. I especially loved the homage scene to To Kill a Mockingbird.

I've seen it at least eight times and each time it has gotten better. "Slow and somber!" I'm still stunned by those adjectives.
